1936 Riley 12/4 Merlin 26M

Practical Pre-war Saloon motoring

Full running order, re-upholstered .

A one owner car since 1952, when used for a tour of the South of France. Called upon for further duties on a honeymoon tour of Scotland in 1961. Thereafter, the school run fully occupied this trusty Merlin, until a well earned rest during the 1980/90s. The Briggs bodywork (steel) was made good, the sun roof overhauled, the interior totally re-upholstered in green leather, carpets to match and finally the handsome woodwork re-polished.

The engine was removed, stripped and fully overhauled, in the re-assembly particular attention was paid to engine breathing. A twin pipe, tuned length exhaust manifold is complemented by original efficient Solex carburettor and manifolding.

Then a lazy retirement in rural Devon, with only an occasional wedding to lend excitement.

Last year saw a gearbox overhaul with new bands and bearings. This is fully operational but will require bedding in and adjusting, also in 2012 a new, high quality, £50 battery fitted.
